If your main problem is storage space and mileage with the XJ and you’re thinking about the diesel swap, why not diesel swap the XJ you have and build an off-road trailer that’s lockable. The diesel will give you mileage and torque to tow and the trailer would give you the space so you wouldn’t have to make 2-3 trips per day.
